Citation checks, reference verification and writing since 2010

Citation Checker and Reference Verification Service in Singapore

Your draft is done, but some references came from a chatbot, a classmate or a search you can no longer find. You think, "If my marker clicks this, will it even open?" A source that does not exist, or does not say what you claim, can turn a good paper into a misconduct question.

A person checks every reference: that it exists, that the details and DOI are right, that it supports your sentence, and that citations match the list in APA 7, Harvard, OSCOLA, IEEE or your school’s style. Invented sources are replaced with real ones.

  • Every source found and opened, not just formatted
  • AI-invented references flagged and replaced with real sources
  • In-text citations matched to the reference list, both ways
  • APA 7, Harvard, MLA, Chicago, OSCOLA, IEEE and Vancouver

Check my references: which ones can't be found?

Three quick steps. A free SGD quote within 15 minutes.

Step 1 of 3: your details

Reference worries

Who can check if my references are real?

A reference checker can. We trace every source in your list to the real book, article, case or web page and tell you which ones hold up. These are the messages that usually arrive with the file.

AI-suggested sources

ChatGPT gave me ten references and I can't find three of them.

AI tools often join a real author to a paper that was never written. We find out which ones exist and replace the rest with real sources.

Marker's comment

My lecturer wrote 'source not found' next to two citations.

That comment usually means the details are wrong or the source does not exist. We trace each one and show you exactly what went wrong.

Broken DOI

The DOI in my list opens a completely different paper.

One wrong digit sends the reader somewhere else. We confirm every DOI and link against the publisher's own page.

Claim and source

I cited a study, but I'm not sure it really says that.

A real source can still be cited for something it never said. We read the part you rely on and flag any claim it does not support.

After big edits

I cut 800 words and now my citations and list don't match.

Deleted paragraphs leave entries nobody cites and citations with no entry. We match every in-text citation to the list, both ways.

New style

My law module wants OSCOLA footnotes and I've only used APA.

Each style has its own rules for cases, statutes, reports and web pages. We set every entry to the style your module asks for.

Not just a proofread

Is a reference check different from paying for proofreading?

Yes. Proofreading checks how a reference looks: commas, italics, order and spacing. A reference check goes behind it to the source itself, to confirm it exists, has the right details and supports the sentence that cites it.

A proofreader reads your reference list on the page. If an entry has the right shape for APA 7 or Harvard, it usually passes. But a perfectly formatted reference can still point to a paper that does not exist, carry the wrong year or page range, or be cited for a finding the authors never reported.

Our reference checkers open each source. They search library databases, Google Scholar, publisher sites and official sources such as Singapore Statutes Online for legislation. Then they compare what they find with your entry and with the sentence that cites it.

If your draft also needs its grammar and layout corrected, a proofread can be done in the same order. If you only need commas and spacing fixed, a proofread on its own is enough, and we will say so.

What each service checks

Proofreading: punctuation, italics, capitals and the order of each entry.

Reference check: the source exists and your marker can find it.

Reference check: author, year, title, volume, pages and DOI are correct.

Reference check: the source says what your sentence claims.

Reference check: every in-text citation matches one list entry, and back.

Both: one consistent style that follows your school's guide.

Six checks per source

What do your experts verify in every reference?

Every entry in your list gets the same six checks. Any entry that fails one is marked in your report, with the reason and the fix.

The six-point reference check

1

It exists

We find the actual book, article, report, case or web page, not just a similar title.

AI-invented sources fail here

2

The details are right

Authors, year, title, journal, volume, issue, pages and DOI checked against the publisher's record.

Checked at the source, not a copy

3

It supports your claim

We read the section you rely on and confirm it says what your sentence says it does.

Flagged if it says something else

4

It suits your brief

Peer-reviewed, official or reputable, and inside any date range your brief sets.

Blogs and essay sites flagged

5

Text and list match

Every citation has one list entry, every entry is cited, and names and years agree.

Checked in both directions

6

The style is correct

APA 7, Harvard, MLA, Chicago, OSCOLA, IEEE or Vancouver, in your school's version.

Your school's guide comes first

Spot a fake reference

Can you tell if ChatGPT made up my references?

Often, yes. Invented references usually join a real author to a title, journal or year that never existed together. Here is one AI-style entry next to the real paper a checker would point you to.

AI-style entry: not found

  • Lee, S. (2021). AI and thematic coding in classrooms. Journal of Imaginary Education, 5(1), 12–30.
  • It looks complete, but no author, paper or journal with these details can be found.
  • No DOI, so your marker has nothing to open.

Verified entry: APA 7

  • Braun, V., & Clarke, V. (2006). Using thematic analysis in psychology. Qualitative Research in Psychology, 3(2), 77–101. https://doi.org/10.1191/1478088706qp063oa
  • Found on the publisher's site, with every detail and the DOI confirmed.
  • Read against the sentence that cites it: a method for thematic analysis.

Illustrative example. The first entry was made up for this page to show a common pattern; the second is a real, widely cited paper.

Try it first

How do I check my own references before paying?

You can test any reference in a few minutes. Try these five steps on the entries you are least sure about. Whatever still looks wrong, send to us.

  1. 1

Search the exact title in quotes

Paste the full title into Google Scholar or your library search, inside quotation marks. A real paper usually appears near the top.

  2. 2

    Open the DOI

Type doi.org/ followed by the DOI. It should open the same title, authors and year as your entry.

  3. 3

Find the page you rely on

Open the source and find the sentence or table behind your claim. If you can't find it, your marker won't either.

  4. 4

    Tick citations against the list

Go through your text and tick each citation in the list. Any entry left unticked is not cited anywhere.

  5. 5

    Compare with your library guide

Check one book, one article and one website entry against your school's style guide, then fix the rest to match.

Pick your route

Do I need a reference check, or help with the whole draft?

Most students here only need their references verified. If the problem goes deeper, there are four other routes, each with real, checked sources built in.

Most chosenDraft done, sources unsure

Verify my references

Every reference traced to its source, details corrected, citations matched and the list set to your style. You get a status for each entry.

  • A status for every reference
  • Fake or unsuitable sources replaced
  • Changes shown in tracked changes
Sources are one of several problems

Check and fix my whole draft

An expert checks the draft against your rubric, rewrites the weak sections and verifies every source in the same job.

  • Comments on each marking criterion
  • Weak sections rewritten
  • References verified as well
Half written

Finish my draft with real sources

Your written parts are kept. An expert completes the missing sections in your argument, using only sources that exist and say what is claimed.

  • Your sections kept
  • Missing parts completed to the brief
  • Sources checked as they are added
Nothing usable yet

Write it from scratch with checked sources

A subject writer writes the whole assignment to your brief, rubric and referencing style. Every source is read and checked before it is used.

  • Outline first on longer work
  • Real, checkable references only
  • Free Turnitin similarity report
Same slips every time

Live session on my referencing

A live session on your own reference list, for students who keep losing marks to the same referencing slips.

  • Your own entries used as examples
  • Your style's tricky cases made simple
  • A short checklist to keep

One reference list

How did an expert fix a nursing list with missing sources?

A composite example of a common situation: a part-time nursing student, a Vancouver list and sources an AI tool had suggested.

Part-time nursing degree student at a PEI, working shifts

A finished evidence-based practice paper, 31 references, and a feeling that some of them were not quite right.

Between night shifts she had asked an AI chatbot for recent studies on fall prevention and copied its suggestions into her Vancouver list. When she tried to open a few of them, the links went nowhere.

A reference checker traced all 31. Four could not be found anywhere, and two were real but did not say what her sentences claimed. Each was replaced with a real study on the same point, the affected sentences were marked, and the numbered list was rebuilt in the right order.

“I didn't know a reference could look perfect and still not exist.”

She got her paper back with a status for every reference and each replacement in tracked changes. No grade was promised; what changed is that every source in it can now be found and read.

Illustrative example based on common student situations, not a specific individual.

Level by level

Where do students at each level need reference help most?

Referencing gets stricter as you move up. Here is where reference lists usually go wrong at each level, and which papers carry the most sources.

Diploma work leans on websites, reports and textbooks, so missing authors, dates and page links are the usual problem.

What happens next

How does your expert check my references, from upload to return?

Six steps, from your file to a checked list. You see the price in writing before anything starts, and nothing is charged until you agree.

  1. 1

    Send your draft and brief

Add the reference style, your school's guide if it has one, and the deadline. We reply within 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Get a written SGD quote

Priced on list length and deadline.

  3. 3

Matched to a checker in your subject

A law list goes to someone who works in OSCOLA, a nursing list to someone who knows the health databases.

  4. 4

    Every source traced

Each entry is found, its details compared and the cited passage read. Problems are logged entry by entry.

  5. 5

    Fixes and real replacements

Details are corrected in tracked changes. Failed sources are replaced with real ones on the same point, and any changed sentence is marked.

  6. 6

Checked again, then your file back

The list is checked again before you get your file back, with a status for every reference.

Source quality

Which sources will your expert accept as credible for my brief?

Check 4 asks whether each source suits your brief. This is how checkers usually treat common source types, but your brief and your school's guide always come first.

Usually accepted?
Yes, for facts and policy
What your checker looks at
That it is the current version, such as the latest text on Singapore Statutes Online

News and industry reports

Usually accepted?
Sometimes, for recent context
What your checker looks at
Whether the claim needs a stronger academic source as well

Blogs, essay sites and AI chat answers

Usually accepted?
Rarely
What your checker looks at
Flagged, with a real academic source suggested for the same point

Wikipedia and lecture slides

Usually accepted?
Depends on your module
What your checker looks at
Traced back to the original source they cite, which your list can use instead

Your reference checker

Who are the experts checking my sources?

Your list is checked by people who use the same databases and style in their own subject, so they know where a real source should be and what its entry should look like.

Why a person checks

Why pay a person when citation generators are free?

Citation generators format whatever you give them, including a source that does not exist. A person checks that the source is real first. These are the promises behind every check.

More than references

What other help could your draft need?

References are often one problem among several. These services cover the rest, and any of them can go into one quote with your reference check.

See common referencing questions in our FAQs, or browse assignment questions students have sent us. Ready to send your list? Use the submit assignment page, and read our terms and conditions first.

Reference check FAQs

Before you check my references, what should I know?

Answers on AI sources, styles, privacy, timing and price.

Can you check if the references in my assignment are real?

Yes. A person searches for every source in your list in library databases, Google Scholar, publisher sites and official sources. Each entry gets a status: verified, details corrected, does not support the claim, or not found. Anything that fails is fixed or replaced with a real source on the same point, and every change is shown in tracked changes.

How is a citation check different from proofreading my references?

Proofreading looks at the surface of each entry: punctuation, italics, capitals and order. A citation check goes behind the entry to the source itself. We confirm it exists, that the author, year, title and DOI are right, and that it says what your sentence claims. If you need both, they can be done together in one order.

I used ChatGPT to find sources. Can you replace the fake ones?

Yes. AI chatbots often produce references that look real but mix up authors, titles and journals, or describe papers that were never published. We check each one, keep those that are real and relevant, and replace the rest with real sources on the same point. If your school asks you to declare AI use, you should still declare it honestly.

Which referencing styles can you verify for my module?

APA 7, Harvard, MLA 9, Chicago, OSCOLA, IEEE and Vancouver, plus school-specific versions such as a faculty's own Harvard guide. Send the guide your module uses, because small rules, like the punctuation after the year or how to cite lecture notes, differ between schools. Where your guide and the general rule disagree, we follow your guide.

Can you check that a source actually supports my point?

Yes, and this is where many referencing problems hide. A real source can be cited for something it never says, often because the claim came from a summary or another paper. We read the part of the source you rely on. If it does not support your sentence, we flag it and suggest a source that does, or a wording that matches what the source really says.

What do I need to send for a reference check?

Your draft, so in-text citations can be matched, and the reference list if it is a separate file. Add the referencing style, your school's style guide if it has one, the brief if it sets rules on sources such as a date range, and your deadline. PDFs of sources you already have are useful too, but they are not required.

Can you verify the full reference list of my dissertation?

Yes. Long lists from dissertations and theses can be checked chapter by chapter as you finish them, with the same checker throughout, so the style and short forms stay consistent. Lists exported from Zotero, EndNote or Mendeley are welcome. We check the exported details against the real source, because exports often carry missing or wrong details.

How fast can you check my references if my deadline is tomorrow?

Often in time, depending on how many references you have. Send the file and your deadline, and we reply within 15 minutes, with questions or a written quote that gives the return time and price. If the time is too short for every entry, we can check the sources you are least sure about first, so the riskiest ones are covered.

Do you use AI or software to verify my sources?

No. Every source is found and read by a person. Software and AI tools can format a reference, but they cannot tell you whether a paper really says what your sentence claims, and some AI tools invent sources themselves. Search tools such as Google Scholar and library databases are used the way any researcher uses them: to find the source.

Will anyone at my school know I used your reference check?

No. We never contact your university, polytechnic, school or lecturer. Files you upload are used only for your task and are shared only with your expert, under Singapore's PDPA, and we never sell personal data. We delete files after your task ends unless you ask us to keep them for follow-up work, and you can ask us to delete them earlier at any time.

Is it allowed to use a reference checking service in Singapore?

Singapore has no specific law against academic writing, editing, tutoring or reference checking services. Each university, polytechnic and private school sets its own rules on outside help and AI use, and you are responsible for following them. We are independent and not affiliated with any institution. If you are unsure what your module allows, ask us before you order.

Is Singapore Assignment Help a real company I can trust?

Yes. We have worked with students in Singapore since 2010, and our registered office is at Suntec Tower One. Every service runs online, so there are no walk-ins, but you can reach us by form, email or WhatsApp and get a reply within 15 minutes. You always see a written SGD quote before you pay anything.

How much does it cost to verify my reference list?

The price depends on the length of your list and your return time. You get a written SGD quote before you pay, and nothing starts until you agree. If you also want the draft proofread or edited, both can go into one quote, so you only send your file once.

What if a reference you marked as verified turns out to be wrong?

Tell us which entry and we check it again free. Corrections against your original request cost nothing extra within the revision period in our terms and conditions. Each status in your report says where the source was found, so you can open it yourself and see exactly what was checked and why it was marked the way it was.

Can you guarantee I won't lose referencing marks?

No legitimate service can guarantee a grade or a referencing mark, because your marker decides. What we can tell you is that every source in your returned list was found, checked against its details and read for the claim it supports. That removes the most common reasons referencing gets questioned.
